Mark your calendars for 20 April 2025 and join us for the inaugural Lesedi Easter Marathon, proudly hosted by Suikerbosrand Athletics Club.
As the first of its kind, this marathon promises an extraordinary experience for both elite athletes and recreational runners. The 42.2km race is officially recognized as a Comrades Marathon qualifier, offering an opportunity for runners to chase their dreams on a stunningly scenic and fast route.
The marathon's route showcases the natural beauty of Lesedi Local Municipality, nestled in the heart of the countryside. The word "Lesedi" means "light" in Sesotho, perfectly reflecting the region's warm and welcoming spirit. The flat and well-maintained roads provide an ideal surface for runners to achieve their personal best while soaking in the breathtaking views of lush landscapes and wide-open skies.
Set in Heidelberg, at the eastern end of the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve, the area is steeped in history and charm. Heidelberg, a Victorian town preserved from the late 19th century, offers a unique blend of heritage and hospitality. Just 50 kilometres south-east of Johannesburg, near the Mpumalanga border and conveniently located off the N3 highway, Lesedi is perfectly positioned to welcome runners from across South Africa and beyond.
The marathon combines the best of small-town charm and natural beauty. The marathon route weaves past Heidelberg and neighbouring areas, offering runners fresh country air and an energizing escape from urban life.
Lesedi welcomes the world of runners in our home and is ready to light the way for runners - whether you're here to race, explore, or simply be inspired, the Lesedi Easter Marathon is more than a race. It's a celebration of endurance, heritage, and community.
Get ready to Run the Light and experience the heart of South Africa's countryside like never before!
